We've Got The Edge!

Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program for beginners of all ages that teaches fundamental movements (go forward, go backward, stop, turn, spin and jump) and basic skills. The CanSkate Program emphasizes fun and continuous movement and is taught in a group lesson format. CanSkate is a feeder program to all other Skate Canada Programs.

Sessions run October-March

Ice Times:  Mondays 5:15 - 6:00

StarSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives.

 

JUNIOR GROUP:

 

This program is taught in a group format and the skaters are given supervision and instruction for the full hour. This program allows the skater to utilize club coaching as well as having the option to arrange additional private lessons with a freelance coach (see our Coaching Staff page for a list of coaches & their contact information).

Sessions run October - March

Ice times: Monday 4:15-5:15

                Friday 6:15-7:15

 

JUNIOR/INTERMEDIATE/SENIOR:

 

This Program offers Skate Canada Test Stream up to Gold level tests. There is no club coaching offered in this program.  Coaching may be arranged between the skater/parent and the freelance coach of your choice (see Our Coaching Staff page for a list of coaches and their contact information).

 

Regular sessions begin in October

 

Junior - entry level skaters who are wishing to take private lessons

     Ice times: Monday 4:15-5:15

                    Tuesday 5:45-6:30

                    Friday 6:15-7:15

 Intermediate - skaters must have passed the complete preliminary freeskate test

     Ice times:  Tuesday 5:15-6:30

                     Thursday 6:15-7:30

                     Friday 4:15-6:00

 Senior - skaters must have passed the complete Sr. Bronze freeskate test or Jr. Silver Skills or complete Jr. Silver dance tests

     Ice times: Tuesday 4:15-5:45

                     Thursday 4:15-5:15 & 6:15-7:30

                     Friday 4:15-6:00

 CanPowerSkate provides an alternative to figure skating, focuses on teaching balance, power, agility, speed and endurance skills which are especially important for hockey and ringette players. CanPowerSkate will teach skaters to develop and improve both their personal style of skating plus improve the biomechanical efficiency of their skating. Once the individual is skating efficiently, the focus changes to developing power and strength.
